Carl William Wright
Carl William Wright, age 73, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 11:54 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at his home as a result of a farming accident. He was born November 18, 1943, in Everton, Missouri, the son of the late Nelson and Euna (Edington) Wright.
Carl was a 1961 graduate of Everton High School and attended Joplin Junior College in Joplin, Missouri. He served in the National Guard during the Vietnam era.
On April 10, 1969, he married Marilyn Zent, in Mt. Vernon.
Carl was passionate about agriculture and the cattle business and devoted his life to building a quality herd of Charolais cattle. He was a member of the American-International Charolais Association, served on the Lawrence County Extension Council, and was a board member of the former MFA Association. He worked tirelessly to obtain the assets from that defunct organization in a way that would benefit local youth. Those funds were eventually used to build the Lawrence County Youth Fair livestock complex that now bears his name and earned him a spot in the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame. He was excited to share his love of the beef industry with his daughters and beloved grandson, Mason, and was proud of the fact that his grandson was the 6th generation of the family to live on the farm his family homesteaded in 1882.
He was also a Mason and member of New Hope Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn; two daughters, Carla Hayes and her husband, Jarrod, of Everton; and Mona Wright-Harp and her husband, Stephen, of Mt. Vernon; grandson, Mason; two brothers, Nelson Wright Jr. of Republic, Missouri; and Glendal Wright and his wife, Alice, of Kiev Ukraine; his mother-in-law, Lois Zent, of Mt. Vernon; three exchange students who were sons of the heart, Ismael Beitia of David, Panama; Antonio Beitia of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Tayfun Azakli of Dubai. The Abel and Claudia Lopez family were also beloved friends who became family.
His parents, Nelson and Euna; brother, Roland Wright; and his father-in-law, Robert Zent, preceded him in death.
