Joan Lou Baker
Joan Lou Baker, age 83, of Miller, Missouri, passed away at 2:16 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at the Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She was born May 30, 1934, in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Verna (Porter) Finch.
On May 30, 1952, she married Dr. Hugh Franklin Baker in Des Moines, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1987.
Joan was a 1952 graduate of Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa and was the office manager for her husband’s Doctor’s Office. She was a member of the Miller United Methodist Church, the Miller American Legion Auxiliary, and the Missouri Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. She was involved in various church organizations and a member of the Rummy Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Washam and her husband, Randy, of Miller and Julie Shaffer and her husband, Mark, of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Richard Baker and his wife, Juli, of Billings, Missouri and Mike Baker and his wife, Pam, of Mt. Vernon; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Her parents, Clyde and Verna, husband, Hugh, granddaughter, Carie Washam, two sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
A graveside service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at the Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017, in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial donations may be made payable to the Miller Branch Library, in care of the funeral home.
