Leona Arlene Simmons
Leona Arlene Simmons, age 69, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 3:14 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at the Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born June 16, 1948, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Laura (Mason) Hagness.
Leona was a 1966 graduate of Grand Forks High School, in Grand Forks, North Dakota and worked in the housekeeping department at the Cox South Hospital. She loved her kids, grandkids and her two dogs, Buddy and Baxter. She enjoyed collecting owl figurines, playing bingo, reading Amish books and watching the birds out of her kitchen window.
On June 3, 1966, she married Keith Dewain Simmons in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Keith; three sons, Jeff Simmons and his wife, Diane and Chris Simmons and his wife, Sheri, all of Mt. Vernon and Scott Simmons and his wife, Melissa, of Pittsburg, Missouri; two brothers, Tom Hagness and his wife, Carole, of Grand Forks and Henry Hagness of Mt. Vernon; brother-in-law, Pat Como of Minnesota; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her parents, Henry and Laura and sister, Genny Como, preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2107, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Burial will be at the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service, in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial donations may be made payable to the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
