Marvin D. Davenport
Marvin D. Davenport, age 81, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2017, at 11:20 a.m. at his home. He was born March 16, 1936, in Ringgold County, Iowa, the son of the late Alvin and Margaret (Tedrow) Davenport.
Marvin was a 1955 graduate of Creston High School in Creston, Iowa. After 32 years working as a customer service associate for Delta Airlines, he and his wife retired from Kansas City, Missouri to Mt. Vernon, Missouri. They were still active in square dancing, which they joined almost 40 years ago. Marvin was a member of the Ozark Prairie Presbyterian Church.
On November 24, 1957, he married Evelyn Truman, in Kent, Iowa.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Evelyn and his two children, Sherry Davenport of Mt. Vernon and Phillip Davenport and his wife, Kerry, of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother, Merrill Davenport and his wife, Shirley, of Adel, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Robbie Taylor of Carthage, North Carolina and Jan Truman, of Cassville, Missouri and several nieces, nephews and many other family members. His friends were his family as well.
His parents, Alvin and Margaret and two brothers-in-law, Jim Taylor and Duane Truman preceded him in death.
“Marv” was a very active and ornery man. He enjoyed picking on those he cared about, whether it be a store clerk or a waitress.
A funeral service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Ozark Prairie Presbyterian Church with burial to follow at the Ozark Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017, in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial donations may be made payable to the Ozark Prairie Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home
