Murl Arlie Johnson


Murl A. Johnson, age 86, of Carthage, Missouri, formerly of Miller, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at home.  He was born March 19, 1931, in Paris Springs, Missouri, the son of Leo and Violet (Carpenter) Johnson.

Murl was a longtime resident of Miller and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict.  He retired as a maintenance foreman from the Carthage School District.  He was a member of the American Legion in Miller¸ enjoyed farming and loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Charlene “Charli”; one son, Joe Taylor and his wife Paula, of Phoenix, Arizona; three daughters, Denise Robertson and her husband, Monty, of Carthage, Shawna Colley and  her husband, Jeff, of Mt. Vernon and Lawna Price and her husband, David, of Stark City, Missouri; four sisters, Datha Taylor of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Wilda Crow of Carthage; Rosalee Martin of Ventura, California, and Martha Pettigrew of Paris, Arkansas; one brother, Bill Whittenberg and his wife, Belen, of Miller; 15 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, Leo and Violet and three brothers, Allen (A.V.) Johnson, Victor Johnson and John D. Johnson and three sisters, Atha Cole, Alma Vaneck and Clovis DeNitto preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home in Miller.  Burial will follow with full military honors at the Sycamore Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the Sycamore Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
