Robert "LeRoy" Washam
Robert LeRoy Washam, age 80, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at his home after a lingering illness of heart disease. He was born March 27, 1936, in Miller, Missouri, the son of the late Glenn Richardson and Vida Lucille (Holcomb) Washam.
LeRoy attended school at South Sycamore and Miller and was a 1953 graduate of Miller High School. He joined the Army National Guard in 1954. He worked at the Carnation Milk Company and Mid Am Dairy for 38 years and EFCO Corporation for four years before retiring in 1996. He loved living on the farm and being in the outdoors with the animals and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.
LeRoy married Ruth Elliott on September 18, 1954 and she preceded him in death on January 28, 1992. On September 23, 1993, he married Donna Cole, in Mt. Vernon.
LeRoy is survived by his wife of 23 years, Donna; his children, Dennis (Pamela) Washam of Bois D’Arc, Missouri, Darrell (Valerie) Washam of Miller, Denise (Michael) Morgan of Miller and David (Darla) Washam of Bois D’Arc; step-children, Kent (Kathy) Cole of Des Moines, Iowa, Carlton (Amanda) Cole of Springfield and Tammy (Kyle) Riebe, of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Glenda (Archie) Phillips of Miller; 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one nephew, two nieces and numerous cousins.
His parents, Glenn and Vida, first wife, Ruth, sister, Fern IleneWasham, infant son, William and grandson, Brandon Cole, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow at the Sycamore Cemetery, east of Miller. Visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017, in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Sycamore Cemetery, Emergency Services for Children or Fair Haven Children’s Home, in care of the funeral home.
