William Hoyt Colley
William Hoyt Colley, age 85, of La Russell, Missouri, passed away at 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center in Sarcoxie, Missouri. He was born November 21, 1931, in Lawrence County, Missouri, the son of William James and Leila Ruth (Galloway) Colley.
Hoyt was a 1949 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and a 1953 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia, with a degree in agriculture. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War and was the Executive Director for the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation office in Mt. Vernon.
Hoyt was always giving a hand up to people that needed help, was very involved in community service, and loved to bowl and fish.
On July 5, 1958, he married Rhoda Juanita Boswell in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 10, 1972.
He is survived by two daughters, Karla Cryer, of LaRussell, Missouri and Amber Bogle and her husband, Clark, of Greenfield, Missouri; two sons, Alex Colley of Springfield, Missouri and Jeff Colley and his wife, Shawna, of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Faye Berry of Ozark, Missouri; Glo Bills of Wichita Falls, Texas and Veda Kessinger and her husband, J. C. of Stark City, Missouri; three brothers, Mason Colley of La Russell, Champ Colley and his wife, Betty, of Sarcoxie, Missouri and Dave Colley of Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, William and Leila, and wife, Rhoda, preceded him in death.
A graveside service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the Colley Cemetery, northwest of Stotts City, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2017, in the funeral home chapel.
